US Soccer / US Club Mandate
Age Group Changes
Hernando Premier FC is Shifting to a Seasonal-Year Age Group Format (2026–27)
Starting with the 2026–27 season, a US Soccer mandate will roll out a seasonal-year age group formation model. The change brings us in line with the format already in place across the broader U.S. Soccer ecosystem — including ECNL, NPL, and other US Club Soccer competitions.
The Details
What's Changing
- New formation window: August 1 through July 31 — registration and roster building lined up with the school calendar
- Nothing changes for 2025–26: The Birth Year format (January 1 – December 31) stays in place for the current season
- How we'll transition: 2026–27 rosters will start coming together during scheduled tryouts at each age group
The Reasoning
Why This Change
- Better fit with the academic calendars used by most school districts across the country
- Brings consistency to registration, competition timelines, and player development pathways
- Cuts down on calendar conflicts and gives families a clearer, more predictable seasonal flow
- Mirrors the wider direction U.S. youth soccer organizations are already moving in
"Moving to a seasonal-year structure is an exciting step that puts players and families first. It builds a more consistent, predictable rhythm that fits the school calendar and cuts out unnecessary conflicts. Most importantly, it lets us stay focused on what really matters — long-term player development, the joy of the game, and a great experience for everyone involved."
