US Soccer / US Club Mandate

Age Group Changes

Hernando Premier FC is Shifting to a Seasonal-Year Age Group Format (2026–27)

This is a US Soccer / US Club mandate

Starting with the 2026–27 season, a US Soccer mandate will roll out a seasonal-year age group formation model. The change brings us in line with the format already in place across the broader U.S. Soccer ecosystem — including ECNL, NPL, and other US Club Soccer competitions.

The Details

What's Changing

  • New formation window: August 1 through July 31 — registration and roster building lined up with the school calendar
  • Nothing changes for 2025–26: The Birth Year format (January 1 – December 31) stays in place for the current season
  • How we'll transition: 2026–27 rosters will start coming together during scheduled tryouts at each age group

The Reasoning

Why This Change

  • Better fit with the academic calendars used by most school districts across the country
  • Brings consistency to registration, competition timelines, and player development pathways
  • Cuts down on calendar conflicts and gives families a clearer, more predictable seasonal flow
  • Mirrors the wider direction U.S. youth soccer organizations are already moving in

"Moving to a seasonal-year structure is an exciting step that puts players and families first. It builds a more consistent, predictable rhythm that fits the school calendar and cuts out unnecessary conflicts. Most importantly, it lets us stay focused on what really matters — long-term player development, the joy of the game, and a great experience for everyone involved."

— Nate Bender, Florida Premier FC CSO

Have Questions?

Quick Q&A

Will this affect players competing in the 2025–26 season?
No. Every team will keep playing under the Birth Year format for 2025–26. The seasonal-year structure begins with August 2026 registrations for the 2026–27 season.
How does this change tryouts?
Tryouts will be the kickoff point for forming rosters under the new August 1 seasonal-year timeline for 2026–27.
Will the change apply to every HPFC program?
Yes. The new age group structure applies across all Hernando Premier FC platforms — ECNL, NPL, and any other US Club Soccer leagues we participate in.
Is Hernando Premier the only club affected?
Not at all. Clubs throughout Florida and the rest of the country will be making the same shift, and all are required to comply.
